It is the 4th of Bachs six transcendental sonatas, believed to have been written to extend the organ technique of his son Wilhelm Friedemann. Filmed at the Church of St. Jacobi in Hamburg, Germany, this programme employs a variety of unusual filming techniques to give a dramatic interpretation of the music. These include using miniature cameras on the inside of the organ to show the mechanical works, and aerial shots from small helium-filled balloons. The titles are by Damien Hirst.
