At nine o'clock on a Friday morning, tickets for an eagerly-awaited Spice Girls concert in Manchester go on sale. Minutes later they are sold out. Minutes after that they appear on the internet at vastly higher prices. By the time the tickets are sold, the mark-up can be as high as two-hundred per cent.
This is ticket touting for the twenty-first century, but is it a fair reflection of a free market economy where supply meets demand? Or is internet touting just 'parasitic opportunism' by 'unscrupulous third parties'?
