Schnittke's witty homage to Mozart and Haydn sets the scene for two works by Mozart himself: a youthful symphony and the celebratory Haffner Serenade written for a wedding, which incorporates a mini violin concerto in the middle.

The Camerata Salzburg, a chamber orchestra from the composer's birthplace, is directed by violinist Leonidas Kavakos, who is also soloist in one of Mozart's concertos. Mozart's First Symphony was written by the eight year old prodigy on a visit to London, while the concert ends with the first of Haydn's exhilarating Paris symphonies.
