The film follows Danny (17) as he diets down for his first big competition, transforming his body in a matter of weeks. He is bigorexic (a clinical obsession with being big) and it has taken over his life. We watch Jack (13) becoming utterly hooked on pumping up his body, and discover what motivates him to want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. We also meet a young girl Chapelle (15) who travels to meet her heroine Avril, a female bodybuilding legend.
We ask what impels relatively normal teenagers to stuff themselves with fat, carbs and protein for half the time, then starve themselves for the rest? What makes them want to spend all evening lifting huge weights rather than going out with their mates? And at what point did they decide that being 20 stone, waxed, preened and glistening, wearing only swimwear, was their idea of perfection?
