They are joined by the sporting heroes who made the headlines in 2007 including Lewis Hamilton, Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, Tim Henman, Jamie Murray, Jelena Jankovic, Tyson Gay, Jonny Wilkinson and other stars from the Rugby World Cup and Euro 2008 qualifiers. We also re-live the great sporting moments like Padraig Harrington's dramatic Open victory and Frankie Dettori's Derby triumph at his 15th attempt.
This year's event is the biggest in the 54-year history of Sports Personality of the Year with an audience of nearly 8000 including a glittering cast list of the world's biggest sporting names - including many of the former winners such as Zara Phillips, Lord Sebastian Coe, Sir Steve Redgrave, Kelly Holmes, Damon Hill, Sir Stirling Moss, Barry McGuigan, Sir Henry Cooper and Virginia Wade.
The evening climaxes with the presentation of the most prestigious award in British sport when the Sports Personality of the Year is crowned - an award chosen by the viewers live on the night from a shortlist of 10 contenders - and the Lifetime Achievement will honour one of the world's true sporting legends.
Further awards will be made to the Team of the Year, the Coach of the Year, Overseas Sports Personality, the Young Sports Personality of the Year, the Unsung Hero and the Helen Rollason Award for Achievement in the Face of Adversity. [S]
